XLCC, the new HVDC, renewable energy focused business in the UK, last month completed the concept design of an advanced, first-of-a-kind Cable Laying Vessel to be delivered in the first half of 2025.
The ship will be ordered by XLCC, which has already vowed to use UK steel in creating the underwater cables which will run from Morocco to Devon.
It has now been reported that XLCC has held positive discussions with UK shipyards to build the world’s biggest cable laying vessel.
The company said: “The design will shortly be released for tender to an identified shortlist of shipyards capable of delivering on such an ambitious project.”
The vessel, due to be delivered by summer 2025, is expected to begin laying cables from 2025 and 2027, connecting wind and solar power generated in Morocco to Alverdiscott, North Devon.
