Developing, growing and building regional maritime clusters features heavily in the UK Government Maritime 2050 recommendations with a stress on Government and industry working together to maintain and enhance the attractiveness of the UK’s regional maritime offer and its importance to the economy at both a regional and national level.
National Maritime is a not-for-profit public, business, research partnership that together explores the values of the ocean and coasts for sustainable development from a multi-disciplinary and multi-sector perspective, working in partnership to champion, grow and clean the sector.
As the largest maritime network in London and the South East of England, with a proven record of working successfully in collaboration National Maritime provides channels and specialised business support services to stimulate innovation activities, primarily in SMEs. Providing ongoing growth support for maritime companies from a wide range of support facilities to help drive innovation to leverage the vast scope of the maritime sector to create opportunity and wealth, both in the communities where maritime industries are strong and for the country as a whole.
Led by National Maritime, the cluster aims to champion and promote the sector, internally, nationally and internationally, drive clean growth and build centres of excellence to maintain regional competitive advantage that boosts prosperity and opportunities in coastal communities. It works with government to create more pro-investment conditions for maritime businesses and to foster collaboration between industry, local government and academia to drive growth.
Putting the role of enterprise – at the heart of everything it does, National Maritime works in partnership with central and local government and its key agencies to pursue and attract major investment to deliver significant economic growth. It works in collaboration with the Department for Transport (DfT), Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), Dartford Borough Council, Lewes District Council and the Newhaven Enterprise Zone( a collaboration between the South East Local Enterprise Partnership).
