Heritage Open Days are back for 2021!

As part of the ten day long event, which runs from Friday 10th – Sunday 19th September, the Excelsior Trust in Lowestoft are hosting a Maritime Heritage Fair on Saturday 11th September to celebrate their fantastic history and culture!

Excelsior will be open to the public to explore for free for tours of above and below deck. Accompanying the open ship will be music, food stalls, independent creators and shops all celebrating Lowestoft’s fishing heritage, as well as Excelsior’s 100th birthday!

The International Boatbuilding Training College (IBTC) based in Oulton Broad will be demonstrating traditional boatbuilding techniques and have boats to view. Watch traditional rigging & wire work techniques, wood steaming and more. Staff and students of the IBTC will be available to answer your boatbuilding questions and tell you more about the skills taught at the college. Take a look at the workboat on Excelsior built by students of the IBTC.

There will also be a rare chance to view the stunning scale model of the Drifter, Jubilee, LT129, built by S. C. Allerton in 1887, owned by John James Cone, and lovingly recreated in model form by his grandson, 83 year old Lowestoft resident, John Cone in 1996.
