WHAT’S IT ABOUT?
This one-day course will focus on equipping participants to confidently run public engagement activities for a wide variety of audiences. It will cover ways of engaging with the public, how to decide on aims and objectives, picking a target audience, activity design, running an activity, using technology and social media & evaluation methods. There will be a focus on online public engagement.
Participants are encouraged to come with ideas of either a current maritime project that needs a public engagement programme or an audience they would like to work with in the future to workshop and develop (but this is not necessary). There will be opportunities for practical online engagement activities during the course.
WHO’S IT FOR?
This course would be useful for anyone who would like to involve the public in a project but is unsure of where to start or for those who are looking for different ways to engage with the public.
Participants may also be interested in attending the Using social media to promote maritime heritage course the following day.
NAS members will earn 5 credits towards their Certificate or Award.
WHAT YOU NEED TO JOIN THE ONLINE COURSE
A computer or tablet (phone screens are a bit small to look at for the whole day) with a good internet connection is essential. A built-in or external webcam and microphone are optional. A week before the course you will receive an invitation to the online course session which will be run through GoToMeeting. This is an online video conferencing programme that can be run directly through the internet or you get better connection if you download the small programme – it only takes a minute to do.
If you are concerned about your computer set up, please contact the organiser at email@example.com for a test run before the course.
