FROM BARROW TO BILLIONS – THE STRENGTHENING, REVIVAL AND REDEVELOPMENT OF BARROW-IN-FURNESS

As the home of the UK’s Astute-class nuclear submarines – the most advanced attack submarines ever operated by the Royal Navy – and the new Dreadnought programme and UK AUKUS submarine production, this session will explore how a submarines shipyard is working in collaboration with regional partners to develop a strategic and proactive approach to improve the skills, wellbeing, health, and prosperity of this small and densely populated Cumbrian Town.

With one in three of the working age population already working for BAE Systems and the wider supply chain, building one of the most advanced products on the planet, Barrow is central to the national endeavour. We will explore how the Barrow Delivery Board will bring together central and local government and BAE Systems, and local leaders to use the Barrow Transformation Fund of £200m over the next 10 years to grasp this opportunity to really establish Barrow as a significant northern powerhouse town.
