The EU-UK Trade deal is now being implemented. The deal has significant implications for the fisheries industry, particularly in terms of fishing rights, access & trade.
Many representatives of the UK catch sector have issued statements expressing that the agreement fell short of the commitments & promises that were made to the fishing industry by those at the highest level of government. Many believe we are now a coastal state with one hand tied behind our back.
The Cornish believe they have been used & abused; used as a poster boy & illustration of what the UK could gain through Brexit & taking back control. Abused
by being sold out in the final analyses for others. The £100m support package spoken about by UK government is nothing more than an insult & a pathetic attempt to cover up a betrayal of UK fishermen.
This is not the deal fishermen were promised. It is important MPs & the public understand this & are not misled by Government spin to the contrary.
And to those coastal leaders & maritime hubs that wrote to the Chancellor supporting decarbonisation to level-up your communities, that long shadow of deprivation that hangs over your towns & cities just got a whole lot darker.
