Annual General Meeting followed by a presentation at Ipswich UCS Waterfront building Neptune Quay Ipswich by Michael Roberts RMarTech MIMarEST on ‘Modern Pilotage Techniques in Ultra Large Container Ships.

Speaker

Michael Robarts is a Senior Pilot handling the worlds largest container ships for the Haven Ports. He also is a consultant and designated person for a statutory harbour authority. His career spans more than 26 years starting as a deck officer at sea on VLCC’s, Gas Tankers and Ro/Ro ships before commencing a career in ports. This lecture looks at the risks involved in handling very large ships, the modern techniques used to mitigate the risks in piloting these types of ship, an overview of the environmental compliance requirements for the port and how the ‘integrated port system’ works. The lecture has been structured to provide topics that cover the IMarEST’s registration categories of: Scientists, Engineers and Technologists.
