With over 600 individual spaces to get afloat and have fun on the water, the family focused Gosport Marine Festival provides an excellent opportunity to find out what it’s like to sail a dinghy, row a boat or glide along on a kayak.
Based mainly in Haslar Marina, the festival also offers an array of activities at the Cockle Pond for younger members of the family, as well as an eclectic mix of onshore entertainment at the Millennium Timespace Sundial and on Trinity Church’s green.
For ages six to 12 there’s windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, sailing and children’s model yacht building.
For ages 12 and over there’s sailing and kayaking.
Open to all ages are a range of historic vessels, including HMS Medusa (pictured), and some of Boathouse 4's historic flotilla, including Steam Pinnace 199, WWII Motor Torpedo Boat 102 and Falklands landing craft Foxtrot 8. Trips on the wheelchair accessible catamarans Wetwheels (power) and Spirit of Scott Bader (sail) will also be available.
A selection of exhibitors, hot and cold refreshments (from Tea Leaves & Coffee, The Coffee Box and Tuc Tuc Delight) and entertainment, including the opening ceremony and prize giving.
In addition, on the green and inside the Holy Trinity Church will be the Inspiration Zone, bringing together local marine companies offering help and careers advice for people wanting to work in the marine industry.
On water activities need to be booked in advance online as the activities are extremely popular. Find out more and book via the Event website.
All activities are free.
