Belatedly, Latin America has become something of an epicentre for the Covid-19 pandemic. “In a sense, South America has become a new epicentre for the disease. We have seen many South American countries with increasing numbers of cases,” WHO emergencies director Mike Ryan told a virtual news conference.
In its Global Economic Prospects report released Monday, the World Bank expressed specific concern over developing markets with weaker public health systems, where up to 60 million people could be tipped into extreme poverty – including in Latin America. With the latest data suggesting that some Latin American countries have become Covid-19 epicentres – is there an optimistic case to be made, and where are the future opportunities for Latin American countries (and their British business partners) as they emerge from the pandemic?
