Coracle Making

Come and make a coracle using traditional methods and mostly traditional materials.

On this two-day course, participants will learn about the craft of traditional coracle building. Using a blend of ancient methods and skills, participants will construct coracles using coppiced materials, canvas and tar. The aim is to understand and practice the skills required to build this simple boat; including cordage making, simple basketry, hazel weaving and the use of sharp tools to produce a paddle.

The course is entirely practical and utilises a range of traditional skills, knowledge and methods to produce a fully functioning canvas covered coracle.

There will be an option to test your finished coracle on the small pond at the ATC. If you are keen to do this it would be wise to bring spare clothes!

NAS members will receive 10 credits towards their NAS Certificate or Award.
