Iconic Billingsgate fish market is set to move along with the fellow historic markets of Smithfield meat market and New Spitalfields Fruit & Flower Market to a new purpose-built site on the docks at Dagenham. Councillors from the City of London Corporation signed off the deal that will mean hundreds of millions to the local area in jobs and training opportunities that will create and facilitate the largest wholesale market in Britain. The close proximity of the Thames was one of the key factors that secured the deal as river usage is fundamental to its logistical future. Due for completion in 2027
